The FSU College of Arts & Sciences and FSU College of Education are collaborating in the development of an innovative pre-service teacher program – FSUTeach – modeled after the UTeach program at UTexas-Austin. UTeach has dramatically increased the number of secondary math and science teacher graduates primarily by attracting science and math majors into the teaching profession. The program uses aggressive marketing and recruitment strategies, begins with successful teaching experiences in public schools, offers a strong teacher induction program, and pays students and supervising teachers for classroom experiences. Part of the instruction is provided by non-tenure track master teachers. Pilot testing of the FSUTeach program will begin in Fall 2007.
